As Annie already mentioned, I recently got back from Comic-Con 2010, and I’m still recovering. To say it was overwhelming and overstimulating is an understatement. But I’m already looking forward to next year. Met so many great new friends, artists I’ve long admired… good times.
After getting back home, I started and finished a portrait commission for a certain Nick, a surprise birthday present from his awesomely thoughtful wife. Nick loves icons and he makes the benediction gesture a lot (really). Yay for me: I recently picked up a fantastic old book full of giant color reproductions of icons, MAJOR inspiration as of late, so this commission was such a blast. I can’t wait to hear about his reaction…. YAY
Some pics of the finished piece, some showing the glossy coats of varnish. I’ll probably post some in-progress pictures after this so you can see the various stages.

So, in an attempt to post more regularly, especially in the midst of crazy production workloads on this graphic novel, I’m thinking I could start doing some weekly themed posts. For starters, let’s try “Black + White Wednesday” eh? Then maybe “Music Monday” perhaps…
This here’s an early stage of an etching I did way back when in school. A portrait of a visiting high school student who came to college for some kind of annual high school fine arts festival… I saw him in the hall in the art building and said, “Uh, hey, can I take a picture of you to do your portrait?” I think his name was Damien, but I can’t remember for sure, but hey, he’s Damien now. HA. Some day I’ll scan in the finished stage etching. This image is cropped quite a bit, there’s alot more to it… it’s one of Annie’s and my favorite prints.

An oldie but goodie. Our good friend, storyteller, and Mother Nature’s Son: Cedar Leidigh of Montana. Painted back in the day when we were all art majors together. You may behold a sampling of Cedar’s art here. And be sure to check out Cory’s Cedar post at his blog (second post down).

Oh, and this is Cedar with our firstborn son on his very first Hallow’s Eve. Cedar put a Sleepga II spell on Marshall, as you can see.

“I often hear now-a-days, the automobile instigated good roads; that the automobile is the parent of good roads. Well, the truth is, the bicycle is the father of the good roads movement in this country.”

I drew this portrait of Annie a few years ago, before we were married.
