We know a party

My sister Erin, her hobby is entertaining, I mean the party sort of entertaining. . . everything is perfect! carefully crafted labels on each tray of food, chocolates that scatter the table as numerous as little sea shells on the shore, a HUge punch bowl. . . and lots of nice friends. I especially liked the nice friends and the salted truffles shown above. Amazing. Oh yes, and I forgot the exactly coordinating presents under the silver tree.

Friend Lib ( check out her sleek paper products here) and Marsh had a few moments of successful peekaboo. He loved the party. He is such a socialite. Ate loads of sweets and stayed up til 11! I took a photo of mine and Lib’s legs, but it didn’t really turn out, we both were super cool and wore black tights and flats and denim minis. . .we’re so hot. . .she’s hotter.

Two pieces of a four part commission for a friend (I can’t very well give away all parts at once you know), a very nice pair of married friends, John and Rebekah who have a funny little boy named Jonas. He was born ten days after Marsh in Prague. They introduced us to this penguin and this mole . We adore Pingu, Chris and I have been watching even without Marshall, it is so funny.

I have alot of work to do on them still, branches and paint and varnish. . .

I have a little bird feeder on my porch. The chickadees and the titmice are always there and I enjoy their chatter so much. They are cute, and kitchy yes, but truly sweet and happy.  I was not truly sweet and happy while taking these photos. . . below, the two insistent participators that I did not appreciate.

Marshall found these candles in a kitchen drawer while I was making dinner. For an hour he made little arrangements only saying the word “make” now and then. He laid them here and there so purposefully. He loves assembling things. . . below a tower I found one evening when I walked into his room.

Away from my love for Thanksgiving. A thanksgiving valentine for you dear. Found just a few red leaves on the ground, but couldn’t find the tree they fell from.

Missed Chris all the way to Ohio, through turkey and the hit of the dinner, roasted carrots and brussel sprouts (seriously, we all had piles on our plates that disappeared in minutes).  Marsh had fun with Poppy and Noni, sisters pillaged thriftstores and antique shops where I found good old books, a dish I must have drawn on, little gold frames to fill with doodles, a funny bird pitcher accused of being phallic and glittering things for my fingers and neck.

Cut my hair like hers! (mine doesn’t look as good) she is so cute!and the shop! Thanks Mollie for the idea. . .

Show at the end of the week. . . so much to do!!!!!!!

The Grand Opening of White Whale Studios & Gallery was so much fun!!! A HUGE thanks to everyone who came out to show your support and love and make it such a memorable opening night, to all our friends and family, we love you so much. It was really great to meet so many people we’d never met before, and Annie and I were so happy to just meet and greet and hang out with old friends and new. And of course, ginormous thanks and congrats to Caroline and Dan, as well as all the WW resident artists for doing so much hard work to get everything ready for the public (but ESPECIALLY Caroline and Dan…!!!) And so many other friends and family who helped in little and big ways… THANK YOU, EVERYONE! Annie and I are so happy to be a part of such a great studio collective and gallery (we’re just so excited about our studio that’s big enough for the both of us (and even Marshall too!))… and with so much more goodness to come, if the Lord wills…

Anyways, some of these pics are from the opening night (when the crowds were a bit more dispersed) and some are just other pics of our studio post-opening-night and whatnot.

If you’re in the Greenville area, get in touch if you want to make a visit!

Got the stamp made, and Caroline liked it so much she volunteered to get arthritis from cutting all these strips and stamping them for our artwork tags (we’ll write our names, titles, and prices on them by hand). I made the little rearrangement after she was done. Tee hee.

Mark your calendar! October 2nd!

White Whale Studios & Gallery

whitewhalestudiosgallery-logo-koelle

I recently designed this logo for White Whale Studios & Gallery (OBVIOUSLY!) in conjunction with promoting the Grand Opening, coming up next Friday (October 2nd) from 6-9pm. And yes, I know that whale is black. It’s called artistic license, people.

If you’re in the Greenville/Spartanburg area (and even if you’re not), you are most cordially invited to join us and the rest of the Resident Artists for a fun evening of food, drink, being merry, and of course, lots and LOTS of art!

For more information, links, and images of the artists’ work, check out the Facebook event page. And while you’re at it, become a Fan of WWS&G on Facebook if ye feel so inclined.

Press Release:

Unbeknownst to most of Greenville, a greatly neglected piece of the Historical Monaghan Mill Village has been undergoing an amazing transformation. A beautiful old home built circa 1890 has been restored and repurposed as the White Whale Studios & Gallery.

The Studio’s name hearkens back to Melville’s infamous tale of a determined white whale outwitting the relentless Captain Ahab, just as the artists, within the walls of this old white house, battle the odds to pursue their work and life’s calling.

The two-story house features a large welcoming front porch, a main gallery downstairs and seven individual working studios upstairs and down. Located three miles from downtown Greenville off 183, it is only one mile from the flourishing Pendleton Arts District.

Friday, October 2, 2009 from 6 pm to 9 pm, the White Whale Studios & Gallery will have its grand opening and the artists, whose work ranges from fine art and pottery to illustration and photography, will have their work displayed and their studios open for exploration.

Resident Artists:

Chris Koelle (artist / illustrator)
Annie Koelle (painter)
Caroline George Lott (portraitist)
Zane Logan (photographer)
Sara Dise (potter)
Carrie Creech (potter)
Jason Waggoner (multimedia artist)
