The view from our mountain top, it was as if we were on a tower, no land sloping beneath the floor. I wish I knew the names of the places and mountains we looked out over.
Below, when the clouds rolled in, we could look them in the face, eye to eye. Behold the weirdness, Christopher’s hands shutter-snapped in the spontaneous shape of a dog!

The long awaited vacation. . . five nights in a cabin at the very tip top of Warrior Mountain, in Saluda NC, only an hour away, the totally awesomest way to vacation, no long excruciating drive home. The mountain was wonderful, we did nothing, woke up to little lizards and glossy black snakes sunning themselves on our porch, the most amazing view of the land, indigo buntings flashing in the trees, antique stores galore, the best thriftstore ever of the Saluda Senior center, artisan pizza at five different restaurants (i think its a record for me), ordering sweet tea instead of water! and dessert! baby goats to frolic with, the poetry of Jane Kenyon on the couch and The Notes From a Tilt-a-whirl, tiny orange butterflies everywhere, fabulous art in Asheville and the wonderful company of my Marshall and Christopher. But more on these things later, for now, laundry!

So of course the week after we go crazy preparing for the White Whale show I have a wedding to arrange flowers for. Have I ever posted any of my arrangements? I’m cutting back on my flower arranging, I can’t quite handle everything on my plate, though I love it all, family, art, flowers. . . art and family won. It is sooooooo much work, but the flowers are amazing. Look at them, perfection with a stem. Magenta peonies, good pick bride, the prettiest bouquet flower ever. Thank you mother, and Erin, and Julia for all your help.
By the way, the Art Bomb show was great, I am invigorated to work. Yes, I should have taken pictures, I brought my camera, but it rode in the stroller. I couldn’t put my eye behind a lens and keep track of Marshall at the same time. . .
Ok, I going on vacation this week. . . you may or may not see anything new for a while. . . at least for a week.

The exquisite culprits who have been munching my herbs. Why do they have to be so pretty?
My ridiculous brain miscalculated dates for the best art show of the year in Greenville at the Art Bomb and so, I came a night early. And they graciously let me in and Paul showed me around and of course I am still blown away, every time I recall what I saw. The most talented, innovative group of artists in the area, you must go see the results of all their hard work, Saturday, that is. 6pm-9:30pm.

Tuesday my sister Erin’s birthday, Wednesday my husband darling, Thursday my sister-in-law’s, bam, bam, BAM! Cakes for the first two, my family is in town so we celebrated yesterday. My sister Erin’s recipe for strawberry buttercream on the positively wonderful sour cream pound cake, scratch recipe from a sweet little lady at church. Best cake baker ever. Oh yes, and shining local strawberries. Perfect. So glad these fabulous people were born!

There goes the painting inspiration. . . sorry honey bees. At least there is no more threat of little naked toes getting pricked and winged workers losing their lives.
The other length of grass is always greener. . . so nice to have it trimmed neatly, making my herb garden stand out in all its bug eaten glory. . . but then, there is no lacey clover to admire. Thank you Christopher for braving the clouds of pollen to cut it for me, us.
My sister’s birthday today and the grand opening of her shop, check out her blog for a give away of pretty things!

Here, some more photos of all those little ones I worked on for ages. It seemed as though they should take up so much more space. So excited that they found really fabulous homes, one in the soon-to-be nursery of Marco and his wife, one with the terrific Diane and one with her neighbor, one with darling Barb, two to dear friend Gwen, and another went with a gentleman named Clearance. Oh goodness! and my favorite Luna moth is traveling through states to live with Tim. Hurray! and The Hawk , is definitely coming home with me. I really am in quite taken with him, I’m not sure he’ll ever see a price tag again.

My husband and I both agreed, the week before was bursting with a month’s worth of work. And then bang sizzle sizzle, the night was like through like a sparkler. A quick beautiful one. The gallery and studios, perfect and quiet and then suddenly bursting with people, a line of cars that stretched far down the street. Every new face and every familiar face made all our toiling so worth it. Many little paintings and I parted ways I am happy to say. The rest will soon end up in the much neglected etsy shop.
This happens every time, I wish I had gotten ore photos. . . more of the wonderful porch, of everyone’s work on the walls, of the people, the bounty of food. . .
The top two by a well-prepared friend, Jenny, so glad she brought her camera. The very top one, the wonderful cozy porch and the kind, eloquent Dr. Raff. The great big house in the dark, my desk and the growing stack of inspiration binders. I wish I had gotten more of Mollie’s birds she frantically finished for us. I am in love with them, yes, Mollie you will be missing two when I return the rest to you, I must buy them for my own, they were just way too fabulous above my desk.
