Most recent of Marshall’s installations on the coffee table. We have an awful lot of dinosaurs. Not sure where they are all going, from the look on the elephant’s face it can’t be good. Maybe they are bringing him and the cow along on their migration as a food supply.

Today was free of distraction, the little boy was in his glory at his beloved aunt and uncle’s house having more fun than I could provide in a month of Saturday. I worked with Chris at the chilly studio, glazed chickadees in shades of gray-green, coated a family of little frames in thick pale peach and tan paint and now I sit at home scratching out many long lines. I love the way pine looks drawn out, but holy cow, it is mind boggling to accomplish. These will be a background for an two encaustic pieces, that need to be done by the end of the month and I have no idea what I am doing. But I think I’m going to like it. And I know that I like this giant aquamarine vase that is holding my pine, given to me by Erin, the beloved aunt I spoke of.
Two other things I like. . . this contest that is an old tradition, face pulling! so delightfully funny and the ridiculous beard and mustache contests, how do you go about kissing one of these gentlemen?

A few weeks ago I found this shrug on Wool and the Gang, in their online kit shop. I love the texture, and the design but honestly I’m not really into the idea of buying the kit. . . also, confession, I don’t really enjoy knitting. Its hard for me to keep count and harder to fix mistakes, actually let’s talk about why I like crocheting much better. . .only one tool to keep track of, only one loop to keep on it, and its so easy to invent things and uninvent them if need be. I found a tutorial on the loop knitting stitch, and then found yay! a crochet one. Here is the video I watched, I paused it alot. And watched it at least six times. But they only show you one row. All the loops are formed on the back, and when you turn it, well, the same stitch doesn’t quite work right. And single crocheting the next row doesn’t let the loops get as dense as I hoped. So I experimented quite alot and finally discovered that when the second row comes around you have to go down into the stitch and out the front (instead of under the stitch from the front, catching the loop on the back) and then catch the loop the same as the video shows you. I’m not sure if I like it that loopy, but that can be fixed. Think of the possibilities! A furry pillow, a cowl, a shaggy purse, a fluffy owl, and maybe soon, a tea cozy. That should keep my tea warm for a while!

I have this on my lap quite alot, its still awfully cold here. I got this patchwork quilt from an antique store when I first got married. You can’t see it, but there is the softest flannel ever on the other side.
I’m probably looking at this intricate metal art, amazing!
I saw this mustache salt and pepper shaker on my sister’s window sill, aren’t they great!? I would like a pair, but I am so used to a grinder and a dish of kosher salt, I’m not sure I could convert.
And, I commented to win this bag, its so nice.

Here is the evidence of blog-neglection, today I dabbled in shape experiments on these little pine drawings I did over Christmas. Two are a pale gray and then one a khaki/stone color, and I love the lozenge shape of the wood plaques. Thank you craft store. First, the white triangles. . . I have more to say about this later, anyways, we know I love triangles. I have a slight tension within me about them (though I love seeing them in other’s work) due to their raging popularity at the moment, but I am trying to make the particular patterns a very personal decision. Of late it has been my Royal Buffet garland making past, this particular “stacking” triangle pattern hails back to my mother’s first quiltmaking endeavor. One night she left for the local sewing center and then returned in the morning mysteriously exhausted and bearing a huge flying geese quilt (just an example, not the actual one) that was displayed prominently on our living room wall for several years. Many quilts followed in its footsteps. Also another quick note, notice the scatter of silver flecks, once again the tape stencil technique. I love how they seem to flicker on and off at different angles.

And these boys above, the Great Horn-ed one is waiting to receive some garland, a rising sphere, and the number two, as he is second in the series. The First one is there to remind you what I am talking about. There is a small stone colored behind the pine paintings, that will bear a small Northern Saw-Whet Owl. I love that variety, they are so familial and sweet looking, as opposed to the pervasive creepieness of you know whooooooo.

The heater drones non-stop outside my bedroom window, even set at 63 degrees! I feel as though it is sucking dollars out of my purse and through the vents, I can almost see them fly past the bed. This house was not built for cold.
Candied Ginger! I got a big quart container the last time I visited my parents, they live near the Amish and so there is a plethora of bulk food stores. Isn’t it so pretty? I chopped it fine and mixed it into my favorite ginger-molasses cookies. (”oOoh, Annie-cookies. . .” my husband said when he discovered exactly what kind of dough was in the refrigerator, he is devoted whole-heartedly to chocolate chip) I need it though, migraine today and Walmart, doctor appointment for a coughing little boy tomorrow (I promised there were suckers and stickers). I just ate five, yes I ate five. In a row, one after another with a refill on milk. And I will probably eat them for breakfast also. Maybe just three.

I cannot stop, making things out of string. Project over the holiday break. Lots of glorious couch time.
Found this sugar bowl also in the Anthropologie clearance section. I do already have a sugar bowl I like, but look at those splendid starburst patterns, aren’t they great? almost compares to triangles. . . besides I still need a dish particularly for sugar cubes. And I can’t very well mix that with the regular stuff can I?
