Open Studios went well, considering the state of my bones. . . I suppose if there had been too much of a crowd I would be a bit more tired than I am now. It was slow then steady, met lots of nice new people and finally met one of our (Chris and I) favorite local artist, Kent Ambler.

The weather was splendid, I had an excuse to resume garland making. . . haven’t made one for over a year since Mollie and I had a show at Christmas. That’s where the fishies came from. I love them.

My favorite time of year. Why not?

Open studios this weekend, this week, my ribs, the last post I wrote was afore I realized the pain pill dosage was a little too much for me. Streams of crazy pictures through my dizzy head that couldn’t move without losing everything, a day in bed is not always a good thing.

Thank you Christopher for taking care of me, thank you Erin for keeping my baby, thank Mom for worrying and fixing my dinner, thank you Cory for the lovely card. Thank you little bits of Greenville that came out to see me pillowed in a chair at my studio this weekend, it helped to forget the ow-ie.

Found this guy on Fly, Olaf Hajek. He is an illustrator, but of course I like his personal work best.

He wore a beaver suit, but did not collect hoards of candy. . . he has a great fear of masks, maybe next year. I had to explain what a beaver was, we watched a video of a darling baby furball at a wildlife rescue center, and then he begged for Elmo of course.

I have cracked a rib, coughing out bronchitis! Ridiculous! And so much work to do! I have Greenville Open Studios this weekend. . . oh dear.  My sister drove me moaning to the doctor while my parents watched Marsh and cooked my dinner, so thankful they were here. I am drugged up, woozy but the knife in my side is fading.

I’ll say more about Open Studios soon!

I love you, Otto

I’m not sure how I found Otto Marseus van Schrieck, I think it was searching for dutch naturalists or something or other. . . but anyways he brings the awesome and the terrifying combination of reptiles and moths and flowers. The tension is just beautiful, look at that frog scoring a moth under the plant! I’m sure you’ll start to see some snake/moth pairings popping up soon from my studio.

Actually the bottom photo of one of my paintings that I love so much, there could never be a money exchange equal to my affection, was done before I discovered Otto, and (notice the time-consuming detail) before Marshall. It also looks quite elementary next to his paintings, maybe I shouldn’t have posted them so close together.
